The Paz Foundation is designing, developing, and building the Largest Health and Wellness Medical research City in the world. We chose the natural tropical setting near a Rainforest. and the shore of the Pacific Ocean of Dinalungan, Aurora Province the Philippines. Why have we decided to build in Natural settings? Being surrounded by nature has positive effects on the well-being and health of every person as studies have shown that people who live in calm natural settings live happier and longer lives than those who live under stressful conditions.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS ALBEIT DIFFERENT CAN BE COMBINED WITH A HOLISTIC APPROACH AND A POSITIVE MINDSET.
What is Health and Wellness?
While you cannot choose the state of health, you can consciously choose wellness by living your life responsibly and taking proactive steps for your well-being.
- Health comprises the diagnosis of a disease/illness, predisposition to a disease, and any unexpected injury.
- Wellness is an active process of growth and change to reach your fullest health and well-being. In other words, it is associated with actively pursuing activities, making choices, and lifestyle changes. Also, controlling risk factors that can harm a person, focusing on nutrition, and having a balanced diet.
- Risk factors are actions or conditions that increase a person’s risk of illness or injury. Some of the risk factors that can be harmful to good health are as follows:
- Smoking: It is a major risk factor for lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
- Drinking alcohol: It can cause liver damage, stroke, heart disease, and cancer.
- Unprotected sex: It spreads sexually transmitted diseases including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
THERE ARE VARIOUS TYPES OF WELLNESS ACTIVITIES AND MINDSET
Physical: Physical wellness increases physical fitness—by being physically fit, a person would have an enhanced ability to prevent illness and diseases.
Intellectual: Mental exercise and engagement through learning, problem-solving, and creativity support intellectual wellness and promote a better attitude. People who learn new things and challenge their minds can avoid mental health problems.
Emotional: A person with emotional wellness can deal with stressful situations. A person who is aware of their own feelings has good self-esteem, and has empathy toward others’ feelings would have emotional wellness.
Environmental: Awareness of the role we play in improving our natural environment rather than denigrating it and maintaining and living in a healthy physical environment free of hazards promotes wellness.
Social: Social circles and support networks are invaluable to the overall well-being of a person. Relating, interacting, and contributing to a community. Therefore, establishing good interpersonal relations, and maintaining long-term relationships with family and friends keep a person happier and healthier.
Spiritual: Spiritual wellness does not imply religion or faith of a person, but the search for meaning and purpose of human existence. Developing compassion, caring, forgiving, and having a purpose in life helps spiritual wellness. This can be achieved through meditation, volunteer work, spending time in nature, etc.
BEING NEAR OR LIVING IN NATURAL SETTING
Research reveals that environments can increase or reduce our stress, which in turn impacts our bodies. What you are seeing, hearing, and experiencing at any moment is changing not only your mood, but how your nervous, endocrine, and immune systems are working.
Nature Heals
Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, but it also contributes to your physical well-being, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones. Whereby, it may even reduce mortality, according to scientists such as public health researchers Stamatakis and Mitchell.
Research done in hospitals, offices, and schools has found that even a simple plant in a room can have a significant impact on stress and anxiety.
Nature Soothes
In addition, nature helps us cope with pain. Because we are genetically programmed to find trees, plants, water, and other nature elements engrossing, we are absorbed by nature scenes and distracted from our pain and discomfort.
Nature Restores
One of the most intriguing areas of current research is the impact of nature on general well-being. In one study in Mind, 95% of those interviewed said their mood improved after spending time outside. Therefore, changing from depressed, stressed, and anxious to more calm and balanced.
